How do pain relief patches work?
Pain relief patches work by delivering topical pain-relieving ingredients onto the skin. Menthol works by activating TRPM8 receptors in the skin to create a cooling sensation that distracts from the pain signals.2 Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, it numbs pain by blocking pain signals in the nerves.1
How to apply a pain relief patch?
Pain relief patches are applied directly to the affected area. Before applying a patch, clean and dry the area of skin where you want to apply it, then take the following steps:
- Remove backing from patch by firmly grasping both ends and gently pulling until backing separates in middle.
- Carefully remove smaller portion of backing from patch and apply exposed portion of patch to affected area.
- Once exposed portion of patch is positioned, carefully remove remaining backing to completely apply patch to affected area
- Wash hands after applying or removing patch. Throw away the patch by folding sticky ends together.
Apply to affected area not more than 3 to 4 times daily. Always follow the instructions on the label and use as directed.
How to remove a pain relief patch?
Peel the pain relief patch away from the skin to remove. Fold in half putting sticky ends together prior to throwing away. Wash hands after removal.
