FAQs about leg pain relief

When should I be worried about leg pain?

Leg pain is a common symptom and can often be treated and resolved at home. However, if you have severe leg pain, or experience sudden or prolonged pain, it’s important to talk to a doctor for advice. 1

How to get rid of leg pain immediately?

Over-the-counter pain killers like NSAIDs and acetaminophen can be used to relieve the immediate symptoms of leg pain. 1 Icy Hot® can be used to help soothe muscle and joint pain. Always consult with your healthcare provider for treatments advice.

Why do my legs hurt at night?

Sometimes pain feels worse at night because there are no other distractions. Other conditions that may cause uncomfortable sensations in your legs at night include restless legs syndrome 2 and leg cramps. 3

How to relieve hip and leg pain?

Treatments include over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicines, cold and heat therapies, and gentle movement. 4 Icy Hot® is available over-the-counter to help relieve pain symptoms.

What causes pain in my legs?

You could be experiencing leg pain for a number of reasons, including injury, muscle cramps, blood flow problems, nerve problems, or other underlying medical conditions. 1

Why do I keep cramping in my legs?

Causes of leg cramps include:

  • Overusing muscles
  • Poor posture
  • Stress
  • Nerve problems
  • Standing on hard floors
  • Blood flow problems
  • Underlying medical conditions

Can dehydration cause leg pain?

Yes, dehydration can cause leg pain and muscle cramps. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water per day to stay hydrated. 1

When to see a doctor for leg pain?

Reach out to your healthcare provider if your leg is swollen, discolored, or cold and pale, if at-home treatments aren't working, or if you have a fever or suspect a medication may be contributing to your pain.

Some symptoms may need more urgent attention. If you notice sudden swelling in one leg, redness around a joint, or signs of a skin infection—especially alongside a fever—it's worth getting checked out sooner rather than later. These could be signs of something that needs prompt medical care, like a joint infection or a blood clot (DVT). 1

Note: Use all products only as directed. Icy Hot products containing counterirritants are indicated for temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with: arthritis, simple backache, strains, sprains, bruises. Icy Hot products containing Lidocaine are indicated for the temporary relief of pain. For questions about your specific situation, talk to your healthcare provider for further advice.
